Cognac chats with Photographer Shane Gritzinger about the Elvis Tribute Concert at the Westbury Music Fair

It was a cavalcade of Elvis impersonators at the Westbury Music Fair, Friday August 21st.

The King was alive and well as a quartet of Elvis impersonators – Donny Edwards, Ryan Pelton and Long Islanders Steve Mitchell and Rick Virga took the stage Friday night for the Elvis Tribute Spectacular at Capital One Bank Theatre at Westbury. Also on hand for the show, which marks the 32nd anniversary of Elvis’ death, was be his original drummer, DJ Fontana, who entertained the audience and Elvis enthusiast with a live concert band All the King’s Men.

Here is a little info about each sexy Elvis:

Donny Edwards: Recognized by Elvis Presley Enterprises as one of the top three Elvis impersonators. Came in third on ABC’s celebrity-impersonator competition show “The Next Best Thing” in 2007.

Ryan Pelton: “American Idol” fans will know him as the Elvis who performed “If I Can Dream” with Celine Dion in the 2007 season finale.

Steve Mitchell: Hailing from Massapequa, he’s been doing Elvis for 15 years and has performed with the likes of the Capris and Randy and the Rainbows.

Rick Virga: The Medford-based performer began his Elvis career by submitting an audition CD to an agency in Las Vegas and was signed for a gig at the Frontier Hotel.

My press photographer Shane Gritzinger and I had a hunk a hunk Elvis all night long as our limo pulled up backstage to meet all five Elvis impersonators. Steve Mitchell chatted with me outside backstage before the curtain went up and later I chatted with my good friend Rick Virga.

If you want to feel like a surfer on Malibu Beach visit Ziggy’s Bar & Grill in Bridgehampton.  Best known for their Fat Boy Burgers, Ziggy’s is located just off the Sag Harbor Turnpike just south of Scutter Hole Road.  Ziggy’s is a surf-chic restaurant and café that attracts lunchy locals and walk-in dinners and celebrities. The ambiance is enchanced with high white ceiling, suspended globe lighting and sexy summery beach music.

During the dinner and lunch hour its kid friendly attracting families.  Late night its more contingent of Hamptons’ under-30 elite.

The food is scrumptious like Bob’s Kabobs, Fat Boy Burgers, Big Surf Salads and Lots and lots of appetizers. The best appetizers include a spicy version pita and hummus, peel n’ eat shrimp, colossal-size nachos and Wing o’ Ling buffalo wings. Heed the All Hail Caesar with added shrimp or Golden Greek for lunch of dinner entrée salads. The cocktails drinks are the ultimate.  My favorite are the Marguaritas!

Nov 15, 2007 Hillary opened “Hillary Flowers Designer Collective” located at 40 Clinton Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.  The boutique is designed to allow emerging designers to directly test the retail market.  Each designer has complete control over their inventory and products plus, they select their own price points.  Hillary directly consults each designer and assists with PR events and marketing strategies.  She requires a short- term commitment to test their product in the retail market.  Naturally overtime, there will be a slight change in designer representation.  Thus products in the shop being sold vary from women’s and men’s clothing, accessories and jewelry.  Currently about 20 designers are selling at “Hillary Flowers Designer Collective”.

Cognac chats with Designer Clodagh about her latest book – Video by Michael Wellbrock

Mecox Gardens Southampton hosted world renowned fashion, interior designer and author Clodagh on Aug. 8th. Designer Clodagh, best-known for her unique blending of modern technology, primitive materials, and ancient techniques signed copies of her new book with Rizzoli, a guide to making your home an eco-conscious zen-like retreat. “Your Home Your Sanctuary” presents room by room, various interiors and exteriors she has designed, and discusses ways to shape a living space into a tranquil yet energizing environment. Her new book is meant to inspire designers and clients alike.

With the “four C’s” she introduced in her first book, “Total Design” – contemplate, cleanse, clarify, create – Clodagh’s design objective is to contemplate space, cleanse it of the unnecessary, clarify the use to which it will be put, and thus create a space that is unique and timeless, whether it be a hotel, a spa, or a home. Tapping into the Feng Shui of each project, Clodagh favors environmentally friendly materials and art finishes, integrating with care the natural elements of earth, fire, water, wood, and metal into each. The resulting environments, geared towards feeding the spirit and soul, are truly timeless, luxurious, sensual and low maintenance. Her goal in this, her second book, is to inspire the reader to create this kind of sanctuary in every room of their home.

Surrounded by the beautiful Mecox Gardens during our interview, we sat and sipped champagne as she emphasized her motto “Why not” as she described her journey to becoming a famous interior designer, artist and fashion creator.

Guest, and Hamptonites were treated to appetizers, cocktails and champagne while they participated in the signing.

Mecox Gardens is located on County Road 39A in Southampton, New York, For more information, visit www.clodagh.com. For further information on this event or images, contact Strohl and Company at 212-242-7200.

An evening of enthusiastic donors and mingling guest with their star-studded Manhattan rolodexes came to the beaches of West Hampton, to support CCOC by making traditional donations throughout the evening along with the option to acquire fashionable clothing, jewelry and artwork with portions of the proceeds benefitting the Children of Chernobyl.

THE HOUSE OF FAITH N’ FASHION, presented by two trend-setting fashionistas, Tobi Rubinstein-Schneier and Anait Kiladze, was held on Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the West Hampton beach home of Tobi Rubinstein-Schneier. The evening  benefited Children of Chernobyl (CCOC), the only not-for-profit organization in the world that permanently evacuates and treats sick children from the devastated Chernobyl region. Steven Spielberg, Heidi Klum, Michael Douglas, James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Jon Voight, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jeremy Piven are a few of the many celebrity supporters who have attended past CCOC benefit galas. To date, the charity has rescued 2,628 children on 86 rescue flights—four in the last five months.
