TV Host Cognac Wellerlane interviews Brazilian Star Marjorie Andrade backstage at the Tadashi Shoji show

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

Cognac chats with Brazilian Star Majorie Andrade backstage – Video by Lorenzo Esquivel

I had a chance to chat with Marjorie backstage at the Tadashi show. We had met last season at the Nico and Adrian show and we were happy to run in to one another. The two of us compared notes on the fabulous show we attended this week at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and Marjorie confessed she really adored watching the Carlos Miele show as well as Donna Karan.

Starting out as a top junior model at the age of fourteen in her native home of Brazil. Marjorie became an international super model after moving to the United States in the late 70s. Appearing on the covers of Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire as well as the advertising campaigns of Revlon, L’Oreal and Lancôme to name just a few.

Taking time off to raise two beautiful children, Marjorie returned to the scene as an actress on Brazilian television as well as a celebrity interviewer.

Marjorie soon discovered she enjoyed being behind the scenes as well, producing her own shows and writing her health and wellness book “The Secret Of Health And Well Being”.

Currently Marjorie writes two monthly magazine columns. One for the luxury lifestyle magazine ELITE and the other covering the most exotic travel destinations around the world for the brand new ELITE TRAVEL.

But her heart belongs to the non-profit foundations Marjorie serves while being involved with many humanitarian and environmental causes. Marjorie is on the board of The Brazil Foundation, and has been a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations among others.

Cognac interviews backstage at Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 – Video by Lorenzo Esquivel

The last day in the tents I had the pleasure of interviewing Roxanne from Creative Nail Design and Rodney Cutler from Cutler Salons.  Roxanne chatted with me about Creative Nail Design’s influence on Fashion Week.  She revealed that CND has a tremendous influence on Mercedes Benz Fashion as the only nail company backstage covering 53 shows.  “At Creative Nail Design nails are the final accessory to compliment the total beauty look,” confessed Roxanne.  Rodney Cutler explained that the hair for the show must be classic to reflect the Tadashi Shoji’s elegant timeless collection, “The look must be clean in a classic way so we created a bun for the models with a modern new twist,” Rodney expressed.

TV Host Cognac Wellerlane Chats with Advice Expert and Beauty Writer Alison Blackman Dunham in the Tents at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2009 about Ports, Terexov and Christian Siriano Fall 2009 Shows

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine.

 Terexov Fall 2009

Cognac chats with Alison Blackman Dunham from advicesisters.net – Video by Lorenzo Esquivel

Alison Blackman Dunham from Advicesisters. net chatted with me in the tents about Christian Surianso from Project Runway, Ports and Terexov.

At the Christian Christian Siriano Show, the theme was Egypt and Christian is quoted as saying, “The collection is inspired by Egypt, but not in literal terms. I referenced the pyramids, hieroglyphics and shadows. Soft sculptural shapes in muted tones evoke the Egyptian desert—soft stone, rich camel tones, deep browns and muted brick shades. There is a pop of jewel tones, while the folds of the fabric reference shadow casting in hieroglyphics. I created rich and luxe Pyramid sleeves and sculptural shapes and details for a different version of a ruffle—strong yet feminine.”

At Ports the influence was the regal regency of India.  The show was immensly entertaining with a live Punjabi band to create an exotic ambiance.

The models strutted doing their catwalk on the runway ensembled in clothes inspired from Tia’s recent Indian journey.  Fabulous mini and long lame Sari dresses, Achkan coats, cropped Angarkha jackets, Salwar pants and a spectacular ruby ombre jewelled gown were the showstoppers.

At Terexov simple lines and retro glamour influenced Russian designer Alexander Terekhov who when in doubt about the uncertain economy created a classic collection of pretty dresses from daytime to evening detailing shift dresses and separates in black & white evolving the  collection effortless and timeless.

Still, the more important aspect of this collection is that it is a complete wardrobe – day to night, work then play, conservative and daring.

Lady like Fashions rule the Runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with Farah Angsana’s Fall 2009 Collection

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine.

Farah Angsana Collection shown at Mercedes Benz Fall 2009

Cognac chats with Designer Farah Angsana – Video by Lorenzo Esquivel

To those who know the stylish, international designer’s work well, this rebirth is a return to the Farah they first met in 1999 when she made her debut in London…a return to haute couture and high-end eveningwear for women. To those who are aware of Farah through the daring and elegant menswear she had been creating in the years since she moved to Paris in 2000, it’s a next logical step. To Farah herself it represents the opportunity to go back to what originally inspired her to become a designer – the thrill of blending fantasy and reality together to make women beautiful and glamorous

Farah began to look at what had worked for her originally and started sketching eveningwear and couture designs for women once again. Taking the reins of her company back into her own hands she created a line of 28 pieces, showed them at the Ritz –Paris during Paris Fashion Week and caused such a stir from some international buyers. Between the press and the orders, the excitement and demand building for her spring 2008 collection, which show in NY last September, and gained much great press and reviews. Best of all Farah, a one-woman business who now splits her time between Paris, Zurich, Italy and around the world, has found success exactly where she always wanted to be – where fantasy and reality come together in creations that make women look elegant and beautiful

In her Fall 2009 collection shown at Mercedes Benz Fashion there was much beading, rushing and embroidery with attention to femine detail and lady like presence.

Cocktail ensemblea in antique gold ans off white were shown in with enthusiasm. A soft willowy light green silk chiffon evening gown was my favorite.

Ms. Angsana spoke to me after the show and reinforced that the consumer is looking for quality and endurance. “Due to the economy people want to invest in a good quality gown that is made well,” Ms. Angsana revealed. ” The inspiration is about a woman in love! The last gown in the collection resembling the dragon took 392 hours of work to embroider,” remarked Ms. Angsana

Cognac Wellerlane interviews Backstage at Diesel Black Gold at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

Cognac interviews Celebrity Makeup Artist Charlorre Tilbury and Renzo Rosso founder of Diesel Black Gold – Video by Lorenzo Esquivel

Beginning as a company focused on making quality clothing, Diesel has become part of the youth culture worldwide.

Diesel is an innovative international design company, producing a wide-ranging collection of jeans, clothing and accessories. Diesel is a leader in pioneering new styles, fabrics, manufacturing methods and quality control to guarantee an outstanding product. The company is present in over 80 countries with over 5,000 points of sale and more than 300 monobrand stores (200 of which are company-owned and the rest in partnership with local distributors).

When Renzo Rosso founded the company in 1978, he wanted it to be a leader, a company that took chances and carved out a niche for itself in its field. He surrounded himself with creative, talented people – innovators who, like him, rejected the slavish trend following typical of the fashion industry.

He wanted to create the most dynamic and imaginative product available anywhere: he gave his openminded design team broad stylistic freedom, and their mission was to create an apparel line perfect for independent people who follow their own unique path in life and for those style-makers who express their individuality by the way they dress.

From the very beginning, Diesel’s design team, headed by Creative Director Wilbert Das, turned their backs on the style-dictators and consumer forecasters of the fashion establishment and let their own personal tastes lead them. Thee company views the world as a single, border-less macro-culture, and the Diesel staff reflects this: a cosmopolitan team that creates an unpredictable, dynamic vitality and energy within the company.

Diesel ”people” and their working methods are so unconventional, albeit productive, that they have been profiled in countless media, and have been studied by international consulting organizations and universities.
