Bravo Real Housewife of NYC and Realty Star Countess LuAnn de Lesseps denies tawdry behaviour

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

Countess LuAnn de Lesseps

Cognac interviews the celebrities including the Countess at Help For Orphans Fundraiser

The glamorous Realty Star of “Real Housewives of NYC,” is about to get ready to promote her book.  The Countess De Lesseps is part-Algonquin Indian and grew up in the Connecticut suburbs and became a registered nurse before morphing into modeling and marrying into royalty, has penned “Class With the Countess: How to Live with Elegance and Flair.” In my last interview with the Countess at Sarah Ehrlich’s fundraiser Help For Orphans LuAnn mentioned that the book will be  out in April from Gotham. “Social graces have been tossed out the window with the plastic containers,” she writes. “And yet, I sense a growing desire for manners, refinement and consideration.”

Reports last August, revealed she stunned guests at the Southampton wedding of BlueStar Jets owner Todd Rome to Vanessa Brahms at Nello Summertimes by commandeering the mike from Andy Hilfiger’s band, singing two songs and knocking over the drum set.

Then she tried “to make out with women and married men. A pregnant wife caught her husband in the act, stormed off and walked home in disgust,” Page Six reveals.

Her husband, French aristocrat Alexandre Count de Lesseps, “was seen throwing her to the ground in the parking lot. She wasn’t just kissing the married men; she was also grabbing their [crotches],” Page Six reported.

LuAnn angrily denied the behavior, Good for you LuAnn don’t let them get away with writing such slander about you.  I know the Countess and she would never behave in any appropriate manner.  Page Six just wants to sell newspapers.

In her upcoming book, she writes: “As far as I’m concerned, class is an attitude. It’s all about confidence and is evident in the way you treat other people.” She adds: “You behave differently with your dry cleaner . . . or your husband of 10 years or a man you want to attract. But it is all seduction. Though passionate seductions are the greatest, it is everyday seductions that make you feel alive.”

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett

IS Kirsten Dunst Josh Hartnett once again a romantic item? They’ve been linked to each other on and off for a year, and a source reveals they saw them at Blue Ribbon Sushi on Sullivan Street Thursday night. “They were whispering and smiling at each other,” said the onlooker. “At times it looked like she wanted to grab his hand, but stopped. She was especially smitten with him.” Hartnett has recently been linked to Rihanna and Sienna Miller, and Dunst has been spotted with Justin Long and Ryan Gosling.

President Barack Obama no help for Grim Magazine Sales

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

President Barack Obama
THE year 2008 wasn’t grim for magazine sales, but it was great for Barack Obama. Time featured the new president on its cover a staggering 13 times, while Newsweek put him on 11 times. “Obama has become a one-man stimulus media package,” author Michael Levine told Page Six. But some editors may have been motivated more by ideology than profit. Die-hard Democrat Jann Wenner put Obama on the cover of Rolling Stone four times last year, but the magazine’s best seller was its July 20 issue with the Jonas Brothers. Sex still sells. New York magazine’s spring fashion issue featuring Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe was its top newsstand seller. Its worst seller was a “Post-Crime” cover studying trends in law-breaking. Some results left editors scratching their heads. Vogue’s November issue with Reese Witherspoon did best, but October with equally lovely and talented Rachel Weisz did worst.

Consensus choice for It-girl is Liliana Dominguez

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

 Liliana Dominguez

Chic young Mexican expatriates in Manhattan are loco about el presidente. The other night they gathered at Mañana restaurant for a feast they called Obama Te Ama (Obama Loves You). Consensus choice for It-girl was Liliana Dominguez (above), who bares all in the new print campaign for Tom Ford. “Every bachelor, married man and gay man there was chasing her around,” laughed one Obamaniac. Also hoisting the Inocente tequila margaritas were co-hosts J.P. Gutfreund and Michel Heredia, designer Brian Reyes, Yaz and Valentin Hernandez and Andrew Bolton, from the Costume Institute.

Cosmo Editor Helen Gurley Brown Axed

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine.

helen-gurley-brown.jpg

Helen Gurley Brown

The suits at Hearst have been itching to ax legendary Cosmo Editor Helen Gurley Brown out of the top job at Cosmopolitan for more than 10 years as circulation slipped – but it took a series of impolitic boners she uttered about sexual harassment and AIDS for the ax to finally drop, a new book reveals.

“In the end, Helen Gurley Brown would prove an exceedingly difficult person to nudge from her coveted but comfortable position, and it took another decade for Hearst executives to force the issue,” Jennifer Scanlon writes in “Bad Girls Go Everywhere,” due from Oxford in April.

Brown was compelled to step down in 1996 following 32 years as Cosmo’s editor-in-chief after a number of incidents:

* When asked if sexual harassment existed at Cosmo in the wake of Anita Hill’s testimony that Supreme Court pick Clarence Thomas had harassed her for years, Brown cheekily responded: “I certainly hope so. The problem is that we don’t have enough men to go around for harassing.”

* She referred to Oregon Sen. Bob Packwood, accused by 10 women of making unwanted sexual advances, as “poor old Senator Packwood,” and scolded one journo, “My darling, would you please remember that he was one of the congressmen who supported legal abortion. He was one of us, so we have to forgive him for being a jerk.”

* She ran a piece titled “Reassuring News About AIDS” reporting that women whose lovers were neither homosexual, bisexual or intravenous drug users faced little risk. Brown said, “We spent such a long time getting sexual equality for women, and just when we’re beginning to enjoy ourselves, somebody’s got to come along and say sex kills.” AIDS activists howled, but Brown has since been proven right.

“In the end, [Brown] would have to be pushed out,” writes Scanlon. But Brown, who turns 87 next month, told a reporter at the time her “firing” was “done with all kinds of consolation prizes . . . money, contracts, perks, flowers and a new Mercedes-Benz.”

TV Guide Broadcast of the Golden Globes with Jennifer Lopez on the Red Carpet

The Golden Globe always kicks off the Hollywood Fashions for the coming year and usually determines who will win at the Oscars in February.

The fashion winners were Renee Zellweger in a Carolina Herrera masterpiece ensembled in a sheer black organza blouse over a bustier and silk faille skirt. Debra Messing ruled in a retro Vera Wang halter and massive red ponytail.

“True Blood” star Anna Paquin – who won for best actress in a TV drama series – adorned in a purple Herve Leroux silk gown, ruched and draped in just the right places.

Movie star Glenn Close chose a a regal gold pants ensemble. Hayden Panettiere resembled Old Hollywooed  Veronica Lake in a deep, deep purple Gianfranco Ferre number with her hair draped over one shoulder. Rumer Willis (named “Miss Golden Globes”) was princess-worthy in purple. And “Hannah” star Miley Cyrus was adorable in gold sequin strapless designed by Marchesa.

“He stepped on my train earlier,” Miley said, chastising her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who along with her mom accompanied her on the carpet. And keep your eye on Slumdog Millionairess Freida Pinto, who looked amazing in a simple mustard strapless.

Strapless gowns were a favorite among many stars including  Kyra Sedgwick, in red Oscar de la Renta; Eva Mendes looked dramatic wearing turquoise and diamonds and draped in creamy Dior; Anne Hathaway, in Armani Privé; and Eva Longoria Parker, in lipstick red Reem Acra.

As the awards show got under way, here are some questions we’re still pondering:

“Gossip Girl” Blake Lively in a vintage glamirous Nina Ricci strapless.  Drew Barrynore looked glamourous in her new Marilyn Monroe coif and adorable Marisa Tomei ensembled in a Pirate of Penzance creation.

Mattel’s Barbie and Ken Million Dollar Dolls Design Team Involved in Scandalous Sex Behavior

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine

 Ken and Barbie

The Mattel Toy Barbie and Ken are beloved by millions of children – but the design team  behind creating the millon dollar dolls were involved in scandalous sexual behavior they kept secret for years, a new book reveals.

In “Toy Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel,” out next month, Jerry Oppenheimer reveals that Jack Ryan, the Yale-educated designer who popularized Barbie, was a “full-blown seventies-style swinger” with “a manic need for sexual gratification.”

Staging orgies at his Bel-Air mansion, Ryan, whose wives included Zsa Zsa Gabor, surrounded himself with busty Barbie clones, including Gwen Florea, who was the “voice of Barbie” in a line of talking dolls. The book quotes her: “He once said to me he loved me being tall so he could stick his nose in my boobs when he hugged me.”

Ryan’s friend, Stephen Gnass, confides to the author: “When Jack talked about creating Barbie . . . it was like listening to somebody talk about a sexual episode, almost like listening to a sexual pervert . . .” Ryan took calls at Mattel from a madam and patronized “high-class call girls to streetwalkers,” including a “very thin and child-like” hooker. The book claims that Ryan “somehow rationalized that he was the only man in her life” until he was diagnosed with gonorrhea.

Barbie and Ken were named after the kids of Mattel founders Ruth and Elliot Handler – an honor that plagued Ken, who “grew up embarrassed and humiliated by having an anatomically incorrect boy doll named after him . . . [with] no hint of genitalia.”

Despite marrying and having three kids, Ken was a closeted gay, Oppenheimer says. “To all those who knew him Ken Handler was a wonderful father, a loving husband . . . But there was another side to Ken. And in 1990 he was formally diagnosed with AIDS. His parents and wife were shocked.” He died in 1994 in Greenwich Village, but obits didn’t mention the disease.
