On November 24th I had the pleasure of attending the 36th International Emmy Awards Event Gala at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan. Fifty fourth street had more celebrities, television stars and movie stars than Hollywood.  Directly across from the Hilton Hotel’s red carpet for the stars attending the International Emmy’s was the movie premiere at the legendary Ziegfield Theatre for the much anticipated “Australia” starring Nicole Kidman so there was much excitement on the scene with paparazzi flashing their cameras trying to get that million dollar photo!

This year’s partners include: Phoenix TV, Globo TV, Microsoft, Ascent Media, Reed Midem, Sofitel Luxury Hotels and Variety. Chip Quigley, Kingdom Entertainment, will produce the show for the 8th year in a row.

Here is a rundown of Roger Bart who has been hosting the event for a couple of years and the presentors that I had the pleasure of interviewing:

Roger Bart, Host

A gifted actor, Roger Bart’s tremendous presence
extends to both the small and big screens, as well as
to the stage. Bart can currently be seen on Broadway
in the musical Young Frankenstein as the title
character, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein. Based on the
smash hit 1974 film, Young Frankenstein is the
wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley
classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks.
Recently, Bart appeared in American Gangster
alongside Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and
directed by Ridley Scott, as well as Harold & Kumar
Escape from Guantanamo Bay, the follow up to the
cult comedy hit. Previous film roles include Carmen
Ghia for Universal’s film version of The Producers
directed by Susan Stroman. Bart also starred in
Paramount Pictures’ The Stepford Wives as the gay
Stepford wife. The role was created for Bart based on
his flamboyant role in the Broadway production of The
Producers. Additional films include Hostel 2, the
sequel to the hit horror film, Jeff Garlin’s independent
comedy I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, The
Insider, starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe,
Disney’s Hercules (singing voice of Young Hercules),
and The Lady and the Tramp II (singing voice of
Scamp). On Broadway, Bart originated the role of
Carmen Ghia in The Producers, the smash hit
musical by Mel Brooks and Director Susan Stroman.
Bart received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for
the role. In 1999, Bart received Tony and Drama Desk
Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Musical as
‘Snoopy’ in the revival of You’re a Good Man, Charlie
Brown, directed by Michael Mayer. Other Broadway
credits include The Frogs, starring opposite Nathan
Lane, and Triumph of Love. On television, Bart
starred in the critically acclaimed Sci-Fi miniseries

committing cinematic crimes. Starting with Desperate
Living (1977), Waters began casting real-life
convicted criminals. He skirted mainstream
filmmaking with Hairspray (1988), earning a modest
gross of $8 million domestically. In 2002, Hairspray
was adapted to a Broadway musical and in 2007 to a
movie version. Waters films have become less
controversial and more mainstream, while in 2004,

Innovative Texas Fashion Designer Lizzi London Takes New York by Storm

Cognac Interviews Designer Lizzi London – Video by Mauro Botero

Innovative Texas Fashion Designer Lizzi London took New York by storm when she showed her whimsical fluttery designs at Manhattan Motor Cars in Manhattan on November 13, 2008.

At first glance at meeting petite Designer Lizzie London I thought I was meeting the glamorous character London Tipton performed by Actress Brenda Song from the hit Disney TV Show “The Suite Life Of Zack and Cody.”  Dressed in one of her designs, a sexy black 1920’s inspired fringed mini dress she began to tell me about her inspiration and goals in the fashion industry.

 lizzi-london-9.jpg

Lizzi London’s childhood passion for abstract art, influenced by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali, led to her desire to observe visuals, manipulate materials and mold on bodies as an alternative to blank canvases and flat drawings. Her design collection for the Fall-Winter 2008 features a diverse array of casual, chic, urban, cocktail, formal and the avant guarde. The inspiration of art truly lies within a woman’s necessity to accent her beauty from inside and out. This is captured from the influence and graceful movements of the exotic peacock. The vivid lines – punctuated with structures, generous textures and volumes – emphasize each individuals’ character. The color palette of nude skin, luscious cream, and bold turquoise with compliments of a lustrous purple balances the proportions of a silhouette. Lizzi London’s calculated designs with precisely detailed rhinestones, beaded sequins, and knots in the rawest form produce techniques that highlight the endless creativity in art.

On her myspace page she tells her viewers, “Im very petite but full of spirits…learning to love n live up life… I love to be endlessly creative in anything n everything i do…..got 2 do it with respects, stay humble and follow my ambitions… crazy like me…..I AM WHO I AM… Other thing that you need to know about me is that…i have to have baileys in a wine glass with ice and cherries on top…hmmm yummmmm.”

Cognac attends Recording Artist Danny Nova’s Afterparty at Hudson Terrace

On Novmber 15th emerging recording artist and recipient of the Timmy Award for “Best Singer,” Danny Nova appeared as the headliner at the World Famous Carnegie Hall in New York City. Nova performed songs from his recent first solo release, “Crushing the Stone” (2008, Future Now Music), as well as songs that are yet to be released.  Nova’s contemporary stylings prominently feature his four-octave vocal range.  He is both songwriter and multi-instrumentalist on all tracks on “Crushing the Stone.”

Nova’s unique performance collaborated with an all-star band including drummer Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel); violinist Deni Bonet (REM, Sara McLachlan); keyboardist Andy Burton (Ian Hunter, Robert Plant); cellist Peter Lewy; percussionist Kevin McIntosh (Parliamment Funkadelic); bassist Muddy Shews (Southside Johnny’s Asbury Jukes); pianist Scott Treibitz; percussionist Sheik (Africa); guitarist Peter Wood (Dramarama); and floutist Yukari. Nova also introduced special guest singer, the multi-talented Nirvana Savoury, recently voted #1 female voice of Toronto.

Danny Nova was also pleased to announce an appearance by Long Island singing sensation Gabrielle Ross: www.gabrielleross.com

“We are gearing up for what is going to be a truly amazing night in a very special place,” says Nova. “It has been a life-long dream to perform at Carnegie Hall and I am looking forward to sharing the passion I feel for music with New York City.” He adds, “I’m also proud to be presenting a world-class line-up of accomplished musicians.”

Danny Nova is a world-class vocalist whose music-making abilities cannot be denied. As a songwriter, Nova is admired for his fine blending of lyrical content with melodic and flowing musical compositions. Peer songwriters consider his lyrical content as seasoned, poised, sensitive and profound with a thin lining of obscurity.

With his four-plus octave vocal range, hitting full voice E notes above high C, this raspy-voiced, acoustic artist would turn the heads of many famed vocalists such as Steve Perry, Ian Gillian, Robert Plant, Rod Stewart, Joe Turner and Steven Tyler.

The founders and producers of the show Sylvie Douce & François Jeantet are partners at work and in life. They are the CEOs of Event International, Inc., a Paris-based international marketing, press relations and event production agency. Together they have created and implemented national and international campaigns for renowned clients such as Mercedes-Benz, Heineken, Kraft Foods, Boucheron, Chaumet and Rolex.

Ten years ago, they conceived the brilliant and delicious idea of a chocolate show for the public and the Salon du Chocolat was born, in Paris. In its first year, the Salon welcomed 40,000 visitors. Each year since, the show has increased in popularity, reaching 100,000 last October over four days. Based on the enthusiastic responses of American visitors, Sylvie and François chose New York, the food capital of the United States, as the site for a U.S. Show. In 1998, the first Chocolate Show was held on Thanksgiving weekend at the Puck Building. The second Chocolate Show moved to the Metropolitan Pavilion in 1999 to accommodate more visitors and exhibitors. The Chocolate Show then expanded with the addition of the Altman Building, adjacent to the Metropolitan Pavilion, to offer 40,000 square feet of chocolate in every conceivable form. The Chocolate Show also made its debut in Japan, in 2000.

“Our goal is to celebrate chocolate,” notes Sylvie Douce, “to foster a richer appreciation and understanding for this wonderful, magical substance. “The Chocolate Show aims to introduce people with the many ways one can experience chocolate using all the senses!”

François Jeantet, who trained as an architect, designs the décor and visual concepts of the Chocolate Show. From the logos to the chocolate exhibition itself, François’ creativity is on display at the Chocolate Show.

Currently Sylvie & François travel the world promoting the Chocolate Show in many countries which have expressed an interest in the show. Amongst them, China (Peking & Shanghai), Switzerland (Geneva & Lausanne), and Russia (Moscow).

Sylvie and François also created the first Salon des Grands Vins in Paris, which made its debut in December 1998 and is held in March every year. This celebration of fine wines gathered 100 exhibitors, among them Chateau Yquem, Chateau Figeac, as well as top Champagnes.

Halloween Fashionistas attended Bette Midler’s Annual Hulaween Event on October 31st at the Waldorf Astoria.
Celebrated entertainer Bette Midler founded the nonprofit New York Restoration Project (NYRP) in 1995 in the belief that clean, green neighborhoods are fundamental to the quality of life, and that every community in New York City deserves an oasis of natural beauty. Seeing many parks and open spaces in dire need of cleanup and restoration, Ms. Midler created NYRP to be the “conservancy of forgotten places,” particularly in New York City’s underserved communities.

To achieve this vision, NYRP partners with individuals, community-based groups, and public agencies to reclaim, restore, and develop under-resourced parks, community gardens, and other open spaces in New York City. NYRP is in their second decade and has removed over 875 tons of garbage from project sites and reclaimed more than 400 acres of under-resourced and rundown parkland. NRRP has rescued scores of community gardens from commercial development and served over 10,000 at-risk urban youngsters with free environmental education program.
