Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine.
Ninety year old Veteran Star Ernest Borgnine, reminisces when he could eat Chinese food and go to a whorehouse for just $2. The Oscar-winner – promoting his autobiography, “Ernie,” on ABC News Radio – told David Blaustein of his 10 years in the Navy, when he’d visit a brothel once a month. “Listen, I was an ordinary fella, y’know . . . but in those days you only paid two dollars.” Blaustein: “For Chinese food, or the whorehouses?” Borgnine: “Oh, for the whorehouses. But first of all, we’d go get a bowl of Chinese, y’know, shrimp, shrimp and fried rice, that was my favorite . . . It’s one of those things that men have to do and, uh, and in those days I wasn’t responsible to anybody, except myself and to the Navy of course.” Blaustein: “You would be a great press secretary for John Edwards.” Borgnine: “No, I wouldn’t!”

Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney hates when all people wear fur – especially not with one of her creations. A recent ad for Hockley, a British fur boutique, featured a model in one of McCartney’s bras under a full-length mink coat. London’s Daily Mail reports she went “absolutely ballistic” over it. McCartney, an avid animal rights activist, was not told her design would be used in a fur ad. A Hockley rep called the ad “an unfortunate mistake” and said it wouldn’t run again.

Photos of Doris Day

Doris Day with David Niven in “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies”
I love this scene with Doris Day, Polly Bergen and James Gardner
Doris with Rex Harrison in Midnight Lace
Doris Day one of my most favorite blondes from the Sixties is now being called a Cat Lady. The star who has co-starred with some of Hollywood’s best including Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Rod Taylor, David Niven, Rex Harrison and James Gardner is now being called a disheveled recluse, or just a very private former screen legend? Is she a crazy cat lady, or an animal activist? Conflicting reports are emerging about how one-time Oscar nominee Doris Day is living out the later years of her life in a plush Cali fornia mansion. Day was recently photographed looking haggard in sweats – and with no makeup – at a Carmel, Calif., shopping center. Neighbors tell London’s Evening Standard that Day now goes by the name “Clara Kappelhoff” and picks up stray cats and dogs to keep on her 11-acre spread. Her flack, Linda Dozoretz, says it’s all hogwash, and that her 84-year-old client, going by Doris Kappelhoff, her born name, is still “sharp as a tack.” She blames the rumors on an unsanctioned “stupid” biography that came out last month.

Adam West in the original 1960’s series
The original Batman from the TV Series, Adam West may be busting a move on “Dancing With the Stars.” The original “Batman,” now almost 80, is being considered for a spot on the next “Dancing” season. “Adam is in outstanding shape,” said a source. “He works out an hour a day and walks with his big dog on his farm in Sun Valley, Idaho.” A rep for West said that he is “not definite yet, but is one of the people they are seriously looking at. They will decide on everyone on Aug. 25.”

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac’s Corner Magazine.
The Donald owns some of the best golf courses around the globe. Donald Trump recently purchased the Shadow Isle Golf Club on 450 acres in posh Colts Neck, NJ. Taken with the quality of the Jerry Pate-designed course and a 90,000-square-foot clubhouse, more than 100 members initially joined at $200,000 a head. But then, because of financial problems and subsequent bad press, sales stopped. The new deal was made between Trump, a major local bank and the original developer for $28 million. Trump will bring in Tom Fazio or Tom Fazio II to upgrade the course. He also plans to improve the clubhouse. “This is magnificent land. When completed, I believe this club will be one of the most successful anywhere. I will be changing the name to Trump National Golf Club/Colts Neck. We already have a long list of people who want to join,” said Trump, who already has courses in Westchester, LA, Palm Beach and Puerto Rico.

Cognac chats with Victoria Marie – Video by Mauro Botero
Adorable singer Victoria stopped by Asiana and we chatted over champagne about her roots in Australia her singing career and living in the Big Apple.
Victoria Marie is a singer/songwriter from Australia and now based in Manhattan, New York. All lyrics and vocals are original collaborations. Her style is varied and her current selection of music contains influences from the dance, pop and R&B genres. Victoria was born in England and grew up in Australia. She has always been interested in music and performed for the first time when she was 5 singing on a TV show by UK channel Granada called: “But can you do it on TV?”. She attained numerous awards for excellence in performance throughout her teenage years. At 17, Victoria travelled alone across the world to Europe to audition for shows. In Spain, Victoria performed as resort entertainer in musicals and shows for two years on the sunny island of Ibiza. Victoria also DJed dance music at the resort nightclub. Upon returning to Australia, she began her own DJ company, DJ Europa Entertainment and ran it sucessfully for two years working with other DJ’s at venues all over Perth, Western Australia. Since then she has performed as Madonna in a live, international tribute show, worked in TV and film and has never stopped performing from acting to singing to modelling. Currently, Victoria resides in New York City where she has been working with Grammy nominated producer Romulus, on dance/pop/ and R&B tracks. “Set me Free” and ‘Dominoes” are the first of many, based on her own personal life experiences.

Cognac chats with Lead Singer Collette McLafferty – Video by Mauro Botero
I had the chance to chat with lead singer from the rock and roll band Edible Red.
Now Serving… Led by firecracker front woman Collette McLafferty, edibleRed is an eclectic New York City-based five-piece collective of atypical musicians. The memorable songs the band creates can be heard on their debut CD, Welcome to My Bad Behavior, slated for release in late May, 2007 on veteran indie label Select Records. Featured lyricist McLafferty is edibleRed’s femme-fatale who describes her sound as one of “a classically trained voice that slowly degenerated into a rock singer’s.” It is fitting that having once performed for Jeff Buckley “before realizing who he was,” she blends songwriting skills like Buckley’s with the style and panache of Debbie Harry and a rich voice a la Tracy Bonham. Alongside McLafferty is edibleRed co-founding member, the Grammy nominated drummer Tom Papadatos. Papadatos graduated with a performance degree from Berkelee College ofMusic in Boston and played with classical crossover artist Sasha Lazard at the CD release party for her recent “Myth of Red.” Recently, Papadatos toured Indonesia and Singapore with New York blues guitarist Hugh Pool. Lead guitarist Sean McMechen brings edibleRed’s hard rock roots to the surface. After years performing in metal bands, McMechen graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and guitar from Jersey City College, and then continued his guitar study at Parsons College in Manhattan. Aside from being one of the most talked about bands in the tri-state area, edibleRed has been cultivating a diehard national following, and planting seeds internationally thanks to non-stop touring, and radio and TV appearances on FUSE TV’s IMX and Brooklyn Radio Online. McLafferty was featured on an episode of FUSE’s “Tattoo Stories,” and The Style Network’s “Split Ends” where she got a brand new coif from the scissors of a hot Los Angeles stylist. In February 2007, members of edibleRed were special guests on an episode of the Dr. Keith Ablow show where psychic twins predicted their imminent success. edibleRed’s songs have been included on the Oxygen Network’s “Good Girls Don’t,” and most recently the band’s lead single “Sugar and Spring” was featured in an episode of Showtime’s “The L Word.” Their music can also be heard on KROCK2’s “Domestic Disturbance.” Bring all these ingredients together and you have a psychedelic rock recipe sure to satisfy any appetite. Among the band’s highlights:
+ Performed for 10,000 people at Pittsburgh’s First Night celebration
+ Appeared live on FUSE (IMX featuring Staind)
+ Song Sugar and Spring featured on Good Girls Don’t on the Oxygen Network
+ Starred in half hour reality show A Makeover Story on The Learning Channel
+ Song As You Do featured on MTV’s Undressed
+ Shared the stage with Antigone Rising, Baha Men, Lola Ray and Jennifer Marks
+ Glowing reviews in The Village Voice, Time Out New York and Pittsburgh Tribune Review
