Bernadette Peters and “Hot Flashes”

A very important blog reading will have to do without Bernadette Peters. The star, 60, was scheduled to read excerpts tonight from Mimi Schmea’s blog, “Hot Flashes,” about a divorced woman going through menopause, but her agents canceled almost at the last minute. A source revealed “Three weeks ago, Bernadette agreed to do the reading because the blog is being considered for a TV show. She said she would do it, and then quit after they publicized the show using her name.” A spokesperson for “Hot Flashes” said, “Bernadette canceled on Friday. We were stunned.” A source said Peters’ camp was not happy when the reading – originally scheduled as a small-venue production – was moved to Ultra Lounge on West 26th Street. But a rep for Peters blamed “scheduling conflicts.” The show will go on, however, with Amy Brenneman, Kim Raver, Jessica Hecht and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
