Mariska Hargitay at the Gotham Magazine Launch at the Four Seasons Restaurant in Manhattan
Spring Into the Season with Gotham Magazine and Mariska Hargitay -
Gotham Magazine launched their new issue at Four Season Restaurant in Manhattan yesterday evening.  Beautiful “Law And Order” Star Mariska Hargitay is Gotham’s cover girl this month. Not only is Mariska gorgeous and highly intelligent like her bombshell mother, Jayne Mansfield, she has a wonderful sense of humor like her mom and has an incredible love for her husband and child like her mom! Could she be anything more like her fabulous mom darlings? Jayne would be so astonishingly proud! Mariska has accomplished so much so far in her young fortunate life.Â
Mariska was born Magdolna Haritay, a Hungarian name because of her Hungarian father, famous bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay in Santa Monica, California on January 23, 1964. She is the youngest child of the marriage between Movie Star Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay.

Mariska was only a baby when she and her three brothers Mickey Jr. and Zoltan were in the back seat of a car sleeping when it smashed into the back of a trailer truck instantly killing her mother (Jayne Mansfield), the driver and Mansfield’s boyfriend, attorney Sam Brody. Miraculously, the three children escaped with minor bruises. Jayne Mansfield was only 33 years old when she died.
Â
Ms. Hargitay dropped out of UCLA before graduating after majoring in theater. She decided then it was time to pursue a career in show business. The cult favorite “Ghoulies” in 1985 was her first film role. After she appeared in “Leaving Las Vegas” in 1995 and in 1999 was cast as Myra Okubo in “Lake Placid” but her big break came when she received the role of Detective Olivia Benson in the primetime hit “Law & Order” in 1999. The premise of the show is detectives that solve sex crimes. Jayne would have loved that! She was voted in 2006 one of People Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People.
When she won the 2005 Golden Globe award her acceptance speech was “50 years ago, my mother stood on this stage accepting this award. She was fortunate enough to have my Dad with her. 50 years later, I’m fortunate enough to have my Dad with me. I love you Dad.”
Unfortunately after that event her father passed on. Her father Mickey Hargitay died after a lengthy illness at the age of 80. She recently was quoted saying “Everything has combined to make my life in New York an amazing experience. I told my manager a few years ago that I wanted to move here and try acting in the Theatre. Then this show came up. Now I’m in this show that means something to me and a lot of other people.”
At present Mariska is married to actor Peter Hermann and have a son. Because of their careers, the couple divides their time between New York and Los Angeles. Mariska is also fluent in Hungarian French and Italian.
